Nostalgia

Tomorrow. Remember yesterday. What is it about the past that is so incredibly fascinating. I know it is not for everyone, but the past can be like a warm blanket that surrounds us in warm fuzzy memories. It can make us feel safe and familiar.

Sound, taste, sight, smell and even touch can transport us to a place in our past that can prompt strong feelings. I am listening to a band at the moment that gives me a relaxed warm feeling inside and I could listen to them over and over again. I won't say who they are but, if you type the title and first 3 words of this post into google, their name will be revealed to you.

I am writing this after just watching 'The Age of Adaline'. A film about a women who never grows old. It is definately worth a watch. It is filled with nostalgia as she looks back, at points, over her life. This leads me neatly onto pictures that DON'T move. Photographs. I am someone who is very passionate about them. Especially old negatives. We are at a point in time where we can capture points in time. By this I mean take photos. But it makes me sad how many negatives are just thrown away these days. Someones memories discarded into a bin. I know what you might be thinking, "Well you can't save them all" and thats true but the same could be said for anything collected. Dosen't stop folk trying though does it.

Pictures are one of the first things we turn to when we lose a loved one or someone is ill, So maybe next time you visit a relative or friend take a look through the photo album, if they have one. You will give them, and maybe yourself, a rush of nostalgia or at the very least you may hear some great stories. Photos are a moment in time and the gift of time is the most important gift.

Take care everyone.
